SKB’s interim storage facility for spent nuclear fuel is in Oskarshamn. We are planning on building a new encapsulation facility alongside the interim storage facility. Spent nuclear fuel will be encapsulated in canisters here prior to disposal in the nuclear fuel repository in Forsmark. In addition, we plan to build a factory in the municipality for assembling the canisters.
We also conduct a large part of the research on methods and technology, required for long-term safe disposal, in Oskarshamn.
