Our assignment
SKB is responsible for managing and disposing of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste from the Swedish nuclear power plants in such a way as to protect human health and the environment in the short and long term. This assignment is part of efforts to fulfil the Swedish national environmental safety objective in terms of radiation.
Our vision
We are both a national and an international role model in terms of managing and disposing of radioactive waste. Society has a great deal of confidence in our way of working, methods, research and technology development.
Our guiding principles
Our guiding principles are:
- Safety
- Efficiency
- Responsiveness
Our strategy
- We constantly develop and improve our way of working with the help of good leadership, expertise and a profound awareness of safety.
- We aim to limit the environmental impact of all our operations, and our work is imbued with good health and a stimulating working environment.
- We achieve safe management of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste by keeping operations, research, technology development and construction within the confines of the same company. A comprehensive approach and close collaboration between these areas help us reach our objectives for the organisation.
- We operate an efficient business by working in an integrated manner and by seeking out synergies within the Vattenfall Group and with other joint owners.
- We are responsive to the expectations of the outside world, but at the same time have strong integrity and a clear individual profile. Our operations are transparent and conducted in collaboration with the general public, municipalities, political bodies and public authorities.
- We cooperate with Swedish and international experts, researchers and sister organisations, all of which offer an important contribution to our nuclear waste programme. We share our knowledge internationally through our subsidiary SKB International AB.
